Adding a new feather in Ali Bin Ali Holding’s cap, the iSpot store at Doha Festival City has been recognized as the Number 1 Apple Premium Reseller in the world in Q3 2020.

iSpot is part the Group’s Consumer Electronics Division – Prime Distribution & Trading Company.

iSpot, an Apple Premium Reseller, achieved the best rating ever based on the latest Apple Audit Report and was ranked Number 1 out of 400+ resellers around the globe. The ranking is given to stores with 100% audit results, which account for a limited number of stores in the world.

Apple Inc. conducted an audit session by last Q2 and Q3 2020, wherein iSpot had the best rate ever by achieving 100% compliance with the Apple standard planogram and guidelines for an Apple Store. iSpot succeed in meeting Apple’s expectations in terms of store look, display, stock, staff training and performance, and best customer experience.

Dohatna Innovative Distribution announces launch of ‘Samsung Travel Companion’ Program in Qatar

Ali Bin Ali Holding’s Dohatna Innovative Distribution, the official partner of Samsung Electronics, On December 10, 2019 announced the launch of ‘Samsung Travel Companion’ program. Exclusive for travelers with Galaxy smartphones, the program will be live at the Qatar Duty Free Samsung Brand Shop located at the departure terminal within Hamad International Airport from December 12, 2019 to February 12, 2020.

Ali Bin Ali Information Technology Department honors its high achievers

 

On June 19, 2019, the Ali Bin Ali (ABA) Information Technology Department held its annual awards event to recognize and celebrate the hard work and achievements of ABA ITD staff during 2018. 

 

The gathering was held at the ABA Head Office IT Department and attended by Ali Bin Ali Holding officials, including Mr. Mohamad Ebrik, Chief Operating Officer – ICT, and Mr. Youssef Moussa, General Manager – ABA ITD, who were delighted to show their utmost appreciation for the ITD staff.

 

This annual event of the ABA IT Department aims to embolden its team and recognizes achievers under three distinct categories, giving them a chance to receive the Spirit of IT award, the IT Innovator award and the Customer Service award. This year, the IT management also added 13 Certificates of Appreciation in recognition of the IT staff’s outstanding dedication and lasting contribution to Ali Bin Ali Holding’s Forward ERP Project.

 

The Spirit of IT award was won by Mr. Varghese Thomas – Enterprise Application Manager, recognizing his positive attitude, teamwork, effective contribution to IT goals and consistency in achieving high-quality results. 

 

The IT Innovator award was bestowed on Mrs. Navami Sivaprasad – Programmer, for making a technological impact across single or multiple units and applying innovations to existing or emerging technologies.

 

The Customer Service award was bagged by Mr. Krishna Giri – Systems Engineer, who proved himself as a team member who works effectively and efficiently to understand customer needs.

 

Certificates of Appreciation were handed over to the team involved in the Oracle ERP Project ‘Technical Track’ for providing support and assistance to the FORWARD Project team.

FORWARD‘s iExpense module automates expense claim process for ABA staff

Further automating Ali Bin Ali (ABA) Holding’s operations, FORWARD is rolling out the iExpense module for different divisions of the company. This module is transforming the reimbursement procedure and can process up to 31 types of expense claims, including those related to office supplies, travel, entertainment etc.

All ABA employees who have access to self-service will be eventually submitting their expense claim forms through this module. For others, they will have their division or HR representatives to apply for them. A part of the ABA self-service and ERP system, iExpense can be accessed remotely.

Ali Bin Ali Technology Solutions (ABATS) was the first division to Go Live with this module in November 2018. After a short stabilizing period, on February 21, 2019 the module went live at ABA Printing Press, ABA Travel, ABA Cargo and ABA Int. for Travel and Tourism. 

After the successful implementation of the module in the mentioned divisions, the set-up has already been completed for eight more divisions and training is underway to Go Live soon.

The iExpense module introduces a major positive change as it makes the entire reimbursement process digitized and automated. Unlike the old system where forms were filled up, followed by a manual approval process, iExpense completes the process online. While the process essentially remains the same, it is more controlled now and saves time. However, the system accepts reimbursement claims for up to a certain amount. Any amount higher than that will go through additional steps and approvals.

Another part of the iExpense module is the IOU or ‘I owe you’. It is a custom complimentary module enforcing the policies of ABA Holding for handling petty cash. Making the process streamlined, ABA employees will be using this module for requesting advance payment from the company for any of the 31 types of expenses. 

The process of implementing the iExpense module was not free of challenges. Initially, the systems were prepared for 17 types of expenses. However, with changes in ABA policies, it had to be customized to handle 31 types. The team also faced some problems with the information required for the set-up sheet and had to find ways to gather complete information. 

The stability period after the iExpense module went live at ABATS allowed the team to find solutions for the challenges that the application faced. The system is now working well in all divisions that have gone live with it, adding much value to the work process.

Speaking about the new module Finance Manager of ABATS Mr. Mohammed Shafquat Zubair said: “Our division has been using the iExpense module for couple of months now and the IOU module has also just been implemented. We are glad that we were the pioneers for this module which is not only saving time but also allowing us to have more control on the entire reimbursement process. In spite of the initial challenges, the team in cooperation with the FORWARD PMO managed to put all information together to get the solution working and delivering as expected”.

Prime Distribution Trading Company signs partnership with I-Life Digital Technology

Introducing yet another innovative tech brand in the Qatar market, Ali Bin Ali Holding’s Prime Distribution and Trading Company ceremoniously announced its partnership with I-Life Digital Technology on August 14, 2018. 

 

In an event held at The Westin Doha Hotel & Spa, US based I-Life Digital Technology signed up Prime Distribution Trading Company as their distributor partner for Qatar.

I-Life also used the occasion to introduce two flagship models – the ultra-slim notebook, ZED AIR 3 and the portable all-in-one PC, ZED PC.

 

Present at the event were Mr. Deepak Bhatia, I-Life’s Global Director for Sales and Marketing, and Mr. Mohammad Imran, Prime Distribution Trading Company’s General Manager. The function was also attended by members of the local media, social media influencers and Prime Distribution and Trading Company’s retail customers.

Joining the flight, ABA Travel Division Goes Live with FORWARD application

Adding another business division to its portfolio, Ali Bin Ali Holding’s FORWARD project went Live at ABA Travels on August 5, 2018. 

 

With preparations continuing since the month of May, team members from the division and FORWARD PMO left no stone unturned to guarantee a smooth transition to the new system.

 

Though it is the Finance and Procurement teams that are primarily involved in the project, there was complete support from departments within the division. It was a hectic journey but the very young Finance team of ABA Travels took up the challenge and wheeled through with confidence.

 

It was the hard work and dedication of Azhar Baksh, Parag Karki, Arjun Marasini, Midhun Puthiyaparambil Jose, Mohamed Hadj Khalifa, Floriefel Canda, Jenny Veloria Sumang and Khurshid Alam combined with support from the FORWARD PMO that made the Go Live a success.

 

FORWARD has not just replaced the financial system for the travel division, but will also play a vital role in enhancing the functionality of e-travel. It will significantly add value to the finance and procurement processes.

 

Azhar Baksh, who is leading the project in the division, said: “I am proud of my team. Each one of them gave their best to make the transition process flawless. They underwent training and workshops, collected reports and prepared data to minimize the chance of any problem after the Go Live”.

Ali Bin Ali Group organizes Cyber Awareness Session

Ali Bin Ali (ABA) Group has always tried to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and happenings around the world. In view of the increasing threat of cyber-attacks on individuals as well corporations, ABA Group decided to organize a Cyber Awareness Session that focused on senior management and senior employees exposed to cyber-security concerns currently being faced by the Group. 

 

The session is part of a larger campaign where the plan is to extend the knowledge to the rest of the Group, covering all employees from every division. The ABA IT Department joined hands with ABA Finance to invite Subject Matter Experts (SME) Ernst & Young (EY) to deliver a session of to explore the potential cyber threats and the ways to combat it.

 

The event, held on June 6, 2018 at the Al Falak Ballroom of Crowne Plaza Doha, was attended by seniors from the Group.

 

In the run-up to the event, ABA IT had sent out a ‘phishing’ email to the invitees to check their awareness level. The susceptibility rate for this exercises (14%) was much higher than average susceptibility rate and it justified further the necessity for the session.

 

The event was inaugurated by Group Chief Financial Officer Mr. Iftekhar Ahmad, who was also the initiator of the Cyber Awareness campaign.

 

He highlighted the seriousness of the matter and said: “Cyber-attacks are a reality and every day someone is falling prey to it. In the recent past, ABA Group has been a victim of such attacks. I request everyone to not take this matter lightly and do everything in our power to stay safe.”

 

The session began with a short video where ABA staff answered questions related to cyber-security awareness.

 

After a short introduction, the EY team began with their educative and informative presentation that covered all aspects of cyber threats, awareness and security. Constant interaction with the attendees made the session engaging.

 

The presentation was perfectly complemented with an interesting workshop where the attendees were divided into groups and asked to perform tasks to test their level of awareness. The workshop covered the key areas of cyber-attack threats, including passwords, disorganized desks, and email phishing. The activity was a perfect and fun way to pass on the critical massage about cyber awareness.

 

ABA Group’s Prime Distribution Trading Company unleashes OPPO F7 in Qatar

Introducing yet another trendy mobile phone in Qatar, Ali Bin Ali (ABA) Group’s Prime Distribution Trading Company launched the new OPPO F7 on May 13, 2018. Powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), the F7 takes smartphone technology to new heights.

The new phone was ceremoniously launched at a special event at Holiday Inn Doha – The Business Park in the presence of media and selected guests. Ali Bin Ali Group FMCG COO Mr. Nabil Mourad, General Manager of Prime Distribution Trading Company Mr. Mohammad Imran, OPPO Qatar General Manager Mr. Moffat Zhou and OPPO GCC Sales Director Mr. Vikas Penchanda were present to unveil the new phone.

The event was opened by Mr. Penchandafollowing which a product expert explained the unmatchable features of the smartphone. The product was physically revealed to guests when helium balloons lifted the cover off the product experience table. 

The house was then opened for questions from the media.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Mourad said: “It is our pleasure to be associated with OPPO GCC and together with them we look forward to introducing the latest technologies in Qatar.”

Mr. Imran was very positive about the new phone and said: “The F7 is the perfect package with amazing features, smooth performance and an attractive industrial design. It offers consumers a better user experience and is sure to become a favorite.”

Growing with the Group, ABATS Goes Live with FORWARD system

Ali Bin Ali (ABA) Group’s FORWARD project reached a new milestone on Sunday, April 1, 2018 by welcoming another division – Ali Bin Ali Technology Solutions (ABATS) to the FORWARD family. After the pilot divisions, ABATS is the first division of the FORWARD first batch roll-out to Go Live.

True to the slogan, ‘Growing together to reach new heights’, ABATS has grown and evolved in its journey with the successful implementation of the FORWARD ERP Application.

The added value that FORWARD will bring about in ABATS involves the introduction of the Project Costing & Billing module. With the help of this module, the division will be able to perform costing and billing operations more efficiently by having an overview of all its projects and activities. This will be a key milestone, and will enhance the core business of ABATS.

On Sunday, a gathering was organized to celebrate the successful launch of FORWARD at ABATS. Apart from the ABATS team, present at the event was Chief Operating Officer-ICT Mr. Mohamad A. Ebrik, ABA Group PMO Manager Mr. Youssef Farajallah Mahmoud and Intrasoft Project Manager Mr. Amer Dakhqan. Top management from the Head Office also attended the event to mark their support for the FORWARD Project.

Congratulating Team ABATS on its achievement, Mr. Ebrik said: “Whenever there is a new system implemented there are hiccups, we face troubles in business but slowly we start to realize its benefit and start utilizing it. Similarly, with FORWARD we are bringing the latest technology to ABA and investing a lot. But the biggest investment we are making is in our people who are running the application. Now, the challenge is to make sure that we can utilize the FORWARD system and take advantage of it.”

Mr. Ebrik also added: “The team has put in great efforts, spending weekends and nights to make sure that everything was up and running before the scheduled Go Live.”

Mr. Youssef and Mr. Amer also thanked the ABATS team for their dedication and cooperation throughout the transition period.

While the achievement was a result of substantial efforts of the whole ABTAS team, two heroes stood out during the transitional phase, namely Mr. Shafquat Zubair, Finance Manager, and Mr. Shaleh MD. Mridha, Management Accountant.

Certificates of appreciation were handed over to them by Mr. Ebrik. Mr. Zubair accepted the certificate on behalf of the entire ABATS team and said the actual journey has begun now with the Go Live.

To mark the journey to new heights, ABATS & FORWARD team members put a small note on the symbolic tree to mark their contribution to the ABA FORWARD project. It was also a sign of unity and cooperation, which is the basis for the success of the project.

The FORWARD planning and transition phase for ABATS was made possible by the sheer dedication and commitment of the ABATS team complimented by excellent guidance and teamwork by our PMO team.

Lined up next for the roll-out is ABA Logistics Division. FORWARD PMO and the Logistics team are putting in every effort to Go Live, as scheduled, in a few weeks’ time.
